About me

Hi! I’m Lou, author and designer at SmartyPantsKids. I love anything creative.... designing, cooking, crafting, repurposing, entertaining, exploring but most of all I love raising my three kids creatively.

Goodbye but hopefully not forever

work family balance

As many of you know, I’ve recently started a new vocation as a Pastor at our local church. I’m loving it, but it’s also influencing my family life a little more than I thought it would.

I tried very hard to work my hours around my children’s schedules and for the most part this is fine however there are a few ongoing issues which I need to take some time to focus on.

SmartyPantsKids is after all a blog about raising children and I don’t think I would be being true to myself if I continue to put my only free time into the blog at the expense of my family. So, I’m taking a little break to work through some of the changes that my kids are experiencing.

It’s taken a lot of soul searching to come to this decision as for a long time now, this blog has been a wonderful outlet for me. My emotions are so torn. I feel grief as I say goodbye to something that I’ve put my heart and soul into. But I also feel relief as I know I can now focus on those that need me the most.

Next year I’m sure things will change again and at that stage I will reassess where things are at and hopefully come back into the blogosphere. I sincerely hope we can reconnect again then.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your thoughts  and have really appreciated you taking the time to read what I write. You have more wisdom than you know and I love that you care enough to share. So thank you.

Lots of bloggie love

Lou x

Dairy free snacks - Flapjacks

Flapjacks are a popular snack all through England as we found out recently. However they are often loaded with sugar AND golden syrup which kind of defeats the purpose of having all those healthy oats. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a bit of sugar. I have a serious sweet tooth but I [...]

Cornish Pasties

While we were holidaying in England recently, in an attempt to embrace British culture we made every possible effort to eat traditional British food for dinner each night. Yes, what an ordeal…

Coping with change to family life

Gosh where do I start with a post like this?! The last three weeks have been interesting to say the least.
